Get Lost in the Wondrous
One of Mexico’s gems is San Miguel de Allende. It’s a colorful and well-preserved showcase of baroque and neoclassical architecture.
Its golden age came about the 1700s, when it struck riches by being a supply center for mining operations in Guanajuato. Mansions, palaces and churches were built in spare-no-expense fashion, first in the Mexican-Baroque style, and later, as art was moving away from the over-the-top, in the Neoclassical.
It was claimed by artists and foreigners in the 1900s, and that’s what it’s mostly known for today: its artistic output with galleries, festivals, and a rich cultural scene, as well as the retirees from abroad that have settled in this UNESCO World Heritage town.
It’s a breathtaking town to get lost in, stroll around its colonial architecture, alleyways, gardens, discover its many shops, experience its delicacies, and feel its wondrous sunlight.
